Thick oilcloth: a 2 mm round protector available from 50 to 155 cm

The Thick oilcloth stands out from a classic flexible tablecloth due to its construction, stated to be roughly 2 mm of PU faux leather with a textile backing. It functions more like a table mat placed flush with the tabletop than a textile designed to create a long drape.

The range is particularly wide: 14 diameters from 50 to 155 cm and several geometric or floral designs. The product sheet indicates a waterproof, oil-repellent, scratch-resistant surface with heat resistance under 80°C. This latter limit nevertheless requires the use of a trivet for very hot containers.

Do not calculate a drape here as you would for a classic tablecloth

Measure the usable diameter of the tabletop and choose a size close to that value. You can cover almost to the edge or intentionally leave a thin visible margin.

How to choose the diameter of the Thick oilcloth?

The dimensions offered are 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 135, 140, 145, 150, and 155 cm. This progression allows for quite precise adjustment. On a 140 cm round table, the 140 cm size aims for edge-to-edge coverage, while a smaller diameter leaves part of the tabletop exposed.

To visualize the difference before ordering, you can trace the intended diameter with string or repositionable tape. This method is particularly useful between 135, 140, 145, and 150 cm, where a few centimeters truly change the appearance of the edge.

Which design to choose for a thick round protector?

The visible variants include mosaic and geometric borders as well as several floral compositions. A structured border naturally frames the tableware and leaves the center calmer. A floral pattern occupies more of the surface and can become the main decorative element of the table. In this case, prefer plain plates and few printed accessories.

Mosaic

Ideal for highlighting the circle of the tabletop. The peripheral pattern remains visible when tableware is gathered towards the center.

Flowers

Floral designs create a more expressive table. Pair them with white, cream, or a color subtly picked up in the print.

Daily use

The low mobility of a thick piece and the textile backing can be advantageous on a table used several times a day.

Protection against water, scratches, and heat

The sheet claims waterproof, oil-repellent, and scratch-resistant properties. These improve daily protection, but no surface should be considered indestructible. Remove liquids quickly, avoid sharp objects, and do not slide abrasive elements across the tablecloth.

Pay attention to temperature

The stated resistance applies to temperatures below 80°C. A pot, Dutch oven, or dish coming out of the oven can easily exceed this value: always use a trivet.

How to maintain a Thick oilcloth?

Cleaning is recommended using a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. Avoid soaking the piece and let it dry in a ventilated space. If it arrives rolled up, unfold it at room temperature and let it regain its shape naturally rather than attempting to flatten it with high heat.

The textile backing must also remain clean. Crumbs or dust trapped under a thick protector can create a bump and rub against the furniture. Therefore, check both sides before replacing the tablecloth. If a material odor is noticeable upon unboxing, simply air the piece out in a ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.

A thick tablecloth for which table?

The Thick oilcloth is particularly suitable for round tabletops where you want to maintain a sharp shape. It does not produce the same effect as a flexible tablecloth that hangs around the furniture. For a true textile drape, compare the floral Oilcloth. To discover all models, browse the Oilcloth tablecloth collection as well as the Round tablecloth collection.
